When I asked my readers what they wanted to encounter next, a number of them asked for rhyming activities. And one reader in detail asked for a rhyming activity in the same format as my consonant sound sorting mats.
Originally I hesitated to share those consonant sound sorting mats because they aren't exactly depression-prep. But I've received lots of positive feedback on them.
So… here you lot are. Rhyming discussion sorting mats!
The download includes xiv divide mats. On each mat, a child is holding a sign with a motion picture. Children demand to find the iv picture cards that rhyme with the main image. You lot'll find rhyming mats for the following words: snail, clap, bell, king, toe, pot, pie, knight, key, glue, plug, ophidian, tag, and lock.
To gear up the activity:
- Print the mats and cards.
- Laminate (we beloved this laminator!)
- Cut apart the cards and mats. (Note: Experiment get-go. I like to cut apart the pieces after laminating so I don't take to cut twice, but it depends on your motorcar. Ironically, the big expensive school machines may not accept as tight of a seal, causing the cards to pare if you don't cutting them apart before laminating.)
- Attach articulate Velcro dots to the mats and backs of the cards.
Even though his grandparents were visting, I was able to persuade my Four to footstep away from Grandma time and practice a piffling rhyming. I started with but 2 mats to keep information technology unproblematic. I helped him identify the primary images on each mat.
He often needed help identifying the proper name of each picture earlier he could make up one's mind where it fit. (To make this easy for yous, I included a film fundamental with each set of pictures in the download.)
Subsequently sorting between two mats, we decided to go for three. He took off all the pictures (dear that Velcro rriiip!) and placed them in a row. I mixed them up.
For each carte du jour he named the picture and the key images. "Shell. King, crush. Lock, trounce. Bong, beat. Yup – bell, shell." And then he attached the moving picture to the correct mat.
I was pleased with how well he did with these! Peradventure it'south because he'due south been listening to me read a lot of my Fiddling Letter of the alphabet Books to his two-twelvemonth-erstwhile sis. They're packed with rhymes and really help kids develop an ear for them!
Nosotros did 1 more than set of three mats before he was ready to be done.
He loved these, and we'll exist sure to pull them out over again!
